My dear boy, I'm writing this to you while the world outside is in turmoil. Our country is going through upheaval, technology is racing ahead at a dizzying pace, and reality changes every single day. I have no idea what jobs will even exist by the time you're a teenager, but I have a few requests for the road ahead, ones that have nothing to do with career, and everything to do with life itself:
1. Your body is your temple.
I see people around me chasing achievements and forgetting the machine that carries them. I'm asking you: guard your health fiercely. Good nutrition, exercise, and peace of mind aren't "luxuries," they're mandatory. Without a healthy body and a calm mind, no achievement is worth anything. Remember to always try to live in the present, not the future.
2. Don't try to please anyone.
Don't waste your life trying to be what other people expect of you. The best career you'll ever have is the one that gives you fulfillment and meaning, even if it's not what "everyone else does," and even if it's not considered prestigious. Do what makes you happy, because that's the only place you'll ever be truly excellent.
3. Everything can change.
The world of 2041 will probably move even faster than today's already-crazy world. If you find yourself somewhere that isn't good for you, get up and change it. Don't be afraid. You have the power to grow, develop, and reinvent yourself at any age. No door is ever really closed if you have the courage to open a new one.
4. I'm always your backup.
There will be hard days, and there will be failures. That's part of the deal. But no matter what happens, know that I'm here in your corner. Your happiness is my happiness. All you need to be is you.
I sent the email. Now all that's left is to try to actually live these principles myself over the next 15 years, so I can set an example for both my sons.
Wishing us all a week of good news, health, and family.
